Dumfries Juniors had a trial 3-way match on Friday – a trial for the format if nothing else!
The winning team of Brogan Dean, Luke McBurnie, Arfat Ahmad and James Little batted first. They posted 55 all out with 3 balls remaining of their 12 overs.
Cameron Brown’s team needed 9 to win off the last over with one wicket left but a direct hit run-out by Max Corbett-Byers left them on 53 with 4 balls left.
Hyder Hussain’s team got off to a smooth start and were 22 from the first 4 overs but unfortunately had lost too many wickets and were all out 24 in the fifth.
The batting stars of the evening were the big strong boys – Arfat (17) and Sam Taylor (13) hitting the ball hard. However Luke Storr and Brogan showed good technique and their time in the middle will stand them in good stead.
It may have been the older ones who dominated the batting but it was the youngsters who proved to be the top bowlers. Katy Anderson was again the pick of them taking 2 for 7 from her 3.2 overs but James Hobman was the leading wicket-taker with three.
The evening, and the format, was a great success – lots of good cricket, good humour, good competitiveness, good support and good conviviality. Thanks to all, especially Stuart for organising the BBQ.
