The 1s stay up and the 2s unfortunately do not and the square is being prepared for next season.

Reports for last week
Reports for the final League Saturday are below about a hard fought game for the 1s at Prestwick and the 2s coming through to close out the win against Prestwick 2s with Solway Print Player of the Match performances from Al, and jointly between Sean and Davie.

Saturday League Places
The 1s finished in 8th place in the Western Premier League and avoided the last two relegation places. The final WDCU league table can be found below. After the results and points on Saturday the 1s would have finished in the same place regardless of the awarding of the win points for the game at Greenock.

However the 2s finished in 9th place in the Western Premier Reserve League and sit above Langloan (Drumpellier 2s) in one of the two relegation places. In the existing league structure we can expect to move to the Second Division with Bothwell (Uddingston 2s) and Cambusdoon (Ayr 2s) from that league swapping with Nunholm and Langloan.

The Club do apologise to our 2s players for the reluctant need to cancel four of these 2s fixtures during the middle of the season which meant there was not that opportunity to claim more wins and points and more importantly deprived people of the opportunity to play. A knock-on combination of Covid isolation across the Saturday teams, holidays, injury, availability and insufficient senior players put a great deal of pressure on the management of these teams. Thankfully that was eased in the latter part of the season but then with an excess of players being available giving the converse problem. However we still need to continue to work hard to attract and retain players at all levels for our future cricket.

Good(in) Season End for Nunholm
Overall it was great Nunholm team performance and win on Saturday to finish off the season and it was also the final game and win for Aiden and Jerry before he and his family head back to New Zealand after October. The Goodin family (Jeremy, Lee, Aiden & Hannah) have all been a big part of cricket in Dumfries over the last twenty years for both Dumfries CC and St. Michaels CC.

Ground work on the square last Sunday
Thank you to those that came along to help last Sunday with the work around the ground and the square.

The sheets and cover tops have been stored and the sightscreens moved and the slats removed. All of the square is now scarified and re-seeded and roped off in preparation for next season. A big thank you to Simon and Davie and Trefor and Drew for their attention to the work on the ground to give the club excellent cricket playing conditions.

Women's Cricket on Sundays
We are now running women's sessions on Sunday mornings (11am) with this Friday the last evening W&G session. The aim is to play a soft ball game on Sundays on the outfield where possible. The first one last Sunday morning saw some impressive boundary hitting especially from batters Bethan, Julie, Caelainn and Orla. The coach is recovering from being hit for five consecutive fours.

We are looking for new and more women and girl participants in expectation of an indoor winter season of soft ball cricket fixtures. So put the thinking caps on and those interested please email us at womenscricket@dumfriescricketclub.com .

Dumfries Sports Club - Saturday Junior Squash started
Junior Squash and Racketball sessions have just started (last Saturday) on Saturdays from 5-6:30pm which is another opportunity for our cricket juniors to go multi-sport at our club. Junior members are already members of the squash and tennis clubs and of the Sports Club.
