"In 1879 the original home of the club at Mildamhead had hit the buffers, partly due to its proximity to the railway. So the search was on for a new ground for the cricket club. Where better to look than next to the very same railway line, at Nunholm.

By the end of the year the Club Secretary was carrying out negotiations for the use of the fields at Nunholm. At an A.G.M. on 10th February 1880 he sought approval for his actions which the 'meeting agreed upon unanimously'.

Two weeks later, the land owner, General Johnston, offered Nunholm to the club at a rent of £40 per annum.

Dalbeattie were the likely first opponents at Nunholm since they were offered a fixture on May Day and Greenock were also on the fixture card for later in the summer."
