It was a successful Club Day at Nunholm on Saturday with three good games that involved all ages and the presentation of the 2019 Club Awards.

Davidson awarded Dumfries Player of the Year

Alan Davidson was awarded with the McKerrow Trophy for the Dumfries Cricket Club 1st XI Player of the Year at the Club Day on Saturday at Nunholm.

The all-rounder was instrumental in his side claiming the West First Division league title with several match winning contributions. He was the top wicket taker with 24 wickets and and was the third top run scorer in contributing 251 runs consistently from the middle order and at a good strike rate.

Other awards were presented on the day and Stuart Alexander won the 2nd XI Player of the Year, the Freddy MacLachlan Award, for his 24 wickets, which included two five wicket match winning hauls.

Young Player of the Year went to Sean Thornely in part for his 9 wickets for the seconds and for ultimately finishing as the Sunday League's top wicket taker with 26. Junior Player of the Year was awarded to Aiden Goodin for his U13 efforts as the second top run scorer from opener, wickets and the mature captaincy of his side.

Women's Player of the Year was Orla Montgomery for her performances in the league, as Scotland Women U17s skipper and for the Cricket Scotland Women's Regional side, the Stormers, which included dismissing three Scotland batters in one over. The Strachan Cup, for Most Improved Female Player was awarded to Niamh Muir for her batting and all-round performances including those for the West U16s Girls team.

Alan Davidson also picked up a second Cup with the much monitored Jimmy Steele Bowling Award for his figures of 6 wickets for 21 for the firsts to ensure an important win against title rivals Weirs.

The awards punctuated a busy day at the Club on the final Saturday of the season with a full range of generations at Nunholm. The junior All Stars cricketers were presented with their certificates after their cricket activities. There was an Under-12 internal match with Harith Hassan's team winning in a close finish despite a top score and 2 wickets for 3 by his opposing captain Billy Morgan. Sean Thornely rescued his side in a Under-15s reduced side game with 64 not out but again the opposing skipper, James Little, put in all-round effort with three wickets and his side's top score with 29 not out to ensure the victory.

Then a Chairman's side beat a Captain's team with Robert McBride hitting an excellent fifty in the first innings for the Captain, Chris McCutcheon, to have a target to defend. However Alan Davidson (50retd) and Thomas McBride (33 not out) then accelerated the late innings scoring. That enabled Andy Reed to have the opportunity of hitting the winning runs for his team in a game in which the younger club players promisingly looked at home and successfully made their contributions.
