Players were away with Scotland U17 girls last week and the club hosted the Scotland Women's Performance Academy against Durham Academy on Tuesday.

Women’s Cricket: Scotland U17s and Scotland Performance Academy

Although the weather caused the cancellation of the Saturday and Sunday matches there was some play for Dumfries Cricket Club players with the Scotland U17 Women’s team in matches during the week.

The Scotland side were playing Derbyshire away and had one one loss in a 50 over match and a win in a T20 fixture. Junior Katy Anderson claimed three wickets in the first game (7.5 overs, 3 for 12) aided by Orla Montgomery with one, plus a run-out from Galloway’s Jess McCulloch.

In the 20 over game Jess and Katy were involved in partnerships as Scotland grafted for what proved valuable runs as they managed to defend a total in the seventies. This time Orla provided the run-out and Katy took two wickets, including the final one, as Scotland won by twelve runs and with around an over to go.

McCulloch and Montgomery also featured for the Scotland Women’s Performance Academy against the Durham Women’s Academy in games at Nunholm. The weekend rain prevented the Monday fixture from taking place but two T20 games were played on Tuesday.

The Durham openers dominated in game one readily chasing down a winning target of 99 to win. Despite a lower total in game two, Scotland took seven wickets with the target reached in the 18th overs for a second win for the side from Durham. McCulloch contributed a not out score of 14, and the most productive partnership, on her debut and Montgomery claimed the first two wickets with a bowled and an excellent run-out.

For some on the Scottish side it was a particularly important game with the Scotland squad yet to be selected for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier Tournament held in Dundee and Arbroath at the end of August.
