Switch to weekend cricket sessions; Tennis developments; and square preparations for season 2021

Autumn Cricket Sessions
All the afternoon sessions have now stopped (due to bad light!) and have moved to weekends. All sessions will be using the net training area.

U15s/Youth Sessions - Saturday mornings, 10am-11:30

U13s Sessions - Saturdays Morning, 11:30-13:00pm

Women and Girls - Sunday mornings, 11am-12:30
Mainly a soft ball session plus hard ball practice for those who want it. The soft ball cricket is suitable for starters and any who have come to our indoor soft ball or CricHIIT sessions. We have had increasing numbers for the Sunday sessions, with fourteen there last weekend, and so we are continuing with our W&G sessions.

All Stars (5-8)/Dynamos (9-11)
Watch out for news next week about a weekend time for these age groups as well.

And outwith these times the net training area is there to be used for more Dads and Lads, or Mums and Daughters, cricket. So do use the facility please.

Catch of the Season
What was the catch of the season? There are a few stunners and sitters amongst our suggestions here

Ground work
The hard work done to refurbish the square at the end of the season in September is bearing fruit, or rather grass, and the first cut of the new growth on the square took place last week. Thanks go to the efforts of Simon, Davie and Raymond. So we are already in good shape for season 2021 and the new junior wickets (to the right of the artificial wicket) will benefit further from this winter preparation as well.

Cricket Down Under
The cricket seasons are starting up down-under so we are keen to hear about how our overseas players from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Zimbabwe are getting on over our winter. Keep in touch. Let us know.

So well done to Tapiwa today with 4 for 15 for his table topping side Takashinga in the National Premier League in Zimbabwe -

And "Wily left arm spinner Declan Brooks (2/28) claimed both wickets" in Murwillumbah Cricket Club 1sts first game. Lost though!

Mental Health Webinars
Cricket Scotland held a series of mental health webinars last week. You can now access these on demand online here.

www.cricketscotland.com/support-clubs/mental-health/

  1. A Mental Health Plan for your Club
  2. Helping A Teammate
  3. Mindfulness For Cricketers

Cricket is a sport when you can go from wickets and runs to a duck, or a dropped catch, in just a couple of games, so get philosophical over the winter.

Great Tennis News
Great news for the Sports Club and for the Tennis section with the required £80,000 now raised to re-surface the tennis courts.

“Thanks to all funders, Holywood Trust, ANCBC, SWEAT, Dumfries Sports Club and all our friends who donated via our GoFundMe page. One year in the making, we very much appreciate this. Thank you all.”

The Club Bar
Following on from recent Sottish Government announcements, a reminder that the Bar is now CLOSED until further notice. Thanks for the support and we hope to see you all again there soon.

Prospects for Squash
The Sports Club Chairman, Jock, wrote to local MSPS and MPS regarding the future of squash in Scotland under the current Scottish Squash and SportScotland guidelines. Reponses to the Club from a number of MSPs can be read on the Sports Club (@DumfriesSportsClub) facebook page here

As of time of writing these squash guidelines are for solo, family or under 12 junior squash and racketball only.
