Raymond's 45 years of service as the club groundsman was acknowledged with a retirement presentation on Saturday.

Raymond Murray's 45 years of service as the club groundsman to Dumfries Cricket Club and Dumfries Sports Club was acknowledged with a retirement presentation on Saturday at his working home for so many years at Nunholm.

He started at the club from school and has prepared and maintained the cricket ground and the surrounds, working with a succession of club ground convenors, ever since.

In 2006 he and the Club were awarded Scottish Cricket's Trophy for Amateur Groundsman of the Year. That was the club's first year in the Scottish National Leagues and so many visiting cricketers were at the Nunholm ground for the first time. This accolade was repeated in 2009 when Nunholm was voted top ground by the National League Division Two clubs with 'Groundsman of the Year' .

He has been a fixture at the ground working both outside and inside the club and his efforts were marked with words from Sports Club Chair Jock Glendinning and 1st XI Captain Chris McCutcheon and with the presentation of a generous collection from club members and players.

Thank you to the Uddingston players for attending the presentation during the game on Saturday.
