In Western Premiership One on Saturday, Vigilant Dumfries came close in their home game against second top side Ayr, losing by 29 runs. Ayr opted to bat first and had a rapid start with openers Marconi and English taking the score past seventy. However, a Jabarkhil catch off Brockwell followed by an athletic run-out by Nairn Cubbon removed the dangerous pair.

Alan Davidson dismissed a further two for the visitors to be 102 for 4. Miller then batted well for his 48 and Dumfries did well to restrict Ayr in the final ten overs to 233 all out. Adam Malik took three wickets in an economical spell, for the Ashleigh Building Player of the Match, along with two more wickets by Munro Cubbon.

In reply, six Dumfries batters got to a score in the twenties and thirties but were not able to go on to a match winning contribution. After two early wickets, opener Fergus Bainbridge batted well for his score of 31, however both he and Ben Plowman (22) succumbed to the lure of Flack's spin. The lower order then persisted and revived the innings from a parlous 86 for 6. Brockwell and McGrath helped take the score past 140 and Nairn Cubbon and Beveridge took the score into the 180s in the 45th over. However, a valiant team effort ended with Dumfries 204 all out with two overs left and Nairn not out with 27.

In Western Championship Two, Nunholm continued their recent winning sequence with an 11-run win at East Kilbride 2nds, Torrance House, to place fourth in a crowded top of the table. Nunholm set a sizeable total of 246 for 8 wickets thanks to a key seventh partnership of 85 between Liam Renou, with 46, and a first 2nd XI fifty for junior Lachlan Osmond with 58 not out which was a recovery from 139 for 6. Earlier, Ronan Dunbar batted well for his 43 to get the side past the hundred.

Cox and Osmond gave Nunholm a good start with two very early wickets and Newport ended a couple of partnerships with his two wickets but the home side middle order contributed scores and Torrance House got near thanks largely to a battling not out 66 by their number eight batter Nadeem. Three wickets by Ross Lamb helped to keep making inroads and Finley Trigg coped with the challenge of the closing overs, and took a wicket, and bowled the last over to restrict the chase to 235 for 9 for an 11 run win. Lachlan was awarded the S&R Roofing Player of the Match.

The Dumfries Sunday Development XI lost at Wigton chasing a total of 190 for 4 in the Sunday League with juniors Lachlan Osmond, Isaac Ishmael, and Lleyton Endredy each claiming a wicket. Cory Dawson then top scored with 26, along with Winston Osmond, and Lachlan added 23 to also win the GM Thomson Player of the Match as Dumfries were all out for 113.

On Saturday, the 1st team, Vigilant Dumfries, play at league leaders Clydesdale in Western Premiership One. The 2nd team, Nunholm, play at home against East Renfrewshire 2nds in Western Championship 2 and Dumfries U15s play Appleby in the Cumbria U15 League Cup Final on Sunday.
