In Western Premiership 2, third placed Dumfries 1st XI, Vigilant Dumfries, notched up an impressive 190 run win against visitors Mearns. Dumfries opted to bat first and runs were shared all down the order in reaching a big total of 307 for 9. The side successfully kept going from 150 for 5 at the half-way mark with Ronan Dunbar then providing the innings top score of 44. Significant run contributions in the thirties also came from Scott Beveridge, Stuart Corbett- Byers and Wahid Jabarkhil.

Three more early wickets from Alan Davidson in turn meant that the Mearns innings stuttered and never recovered. Munro Cubbon took two wickets and Billy Morgan then finished off the response at 117 all out in also taking three wickets. The bowlers were helped by some great catches with Scott Beveridge and Pat Druce rolling back the years. Amongst a number of candidates the CMCA Accounting Player of the Match went to Scott Beveridge.

In Western Championship 2, Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm dropped down to second spot after a three wicket defeat against Hamilton Crescent in a competitive match. Nunholm batted first and set a total of 209 all out with the Hole in the Wa’ Player of the Match, Andrew Reed, the side’s top scorer with 48. However a number of partnerships did not manage to go on with Nunholm, in retrospect, feeling thirty runs short

After a good Hamilton Crescent start at seventy for no loss after ten overs the Nunholm side battled back well to have the opposition 186 for 7 and with a chance of victory. The spin of Winston Osmond and Dashiel Trigg claimed three and two wickets respectively later on and, on his debut, Isaac Ishmael was the most economical bowler. However, no more wickets were forthcoming and the West of Scotland side successfully reached their three wicket win.

The Sunday Development XI lost their T20 Cup match against Langholm. Dumfries set a total of 135 for 6 largely thanks to an excellent 70 not out by the Brockwell Horticultural Player of the Match fifteen-year-old Cory Dawson, In reply, Finley Trigg and Lachlan Osmond each took two wickets to have the Langholm side four down early. However the visitors successfully recovered to secure a five wicket win in the final over.

On Saturday, in Western Premiership Two, the Dumfries first team, third placed Vigilant Dumfries, play sixth placed East Kilbride at home. In Western Championship Two, Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, in second spot, play at East Kilbride 2s who have replaced Nunholm at the top of the table.

Scotland return to Dumfries Cricket Club on Monday with Scotland U16s playing Derbyshire U16s in the ECB Cup in a 50 over match starting at 11am.
