It was the final Saturday of the league session for the Dumfries 1st and 2nd teams.

In the final Saturday of league cricket, the Dumfries sides ended their season with two defeats. In Western Premiership One, Dumfries could only reach 124 all out at Prestwick despite another fifty (52) by the Your Move Dumfries Player of the Match, Adam Malik, who finished as the side's top run scorer this summer. He was backed by 31 from his opening partner Alan Davidson and the pair put together a solid start to reach 75 for no loss until Davidson was dismissed lbw in the 23rd over. That was in spinner Chaudhary's second over and he then proceeded to dismantle the Dumfries innings by taking five wickets for just nine runs which meant the second half of the innings could only take the total on to 124 all out. That low total proved no obstacle for the home side as they went on to win by nine wickets as a variety of Dumfries bowlers were tried with only McCutcheon successful in picking up a wicket, bowling Chaudhary for the only wicket.

At home in Western Championship One, Nunholm were not able to take their chances against St Ninians, Prestwick 2nd XI, and as a consequence the visitors totalled 260 all out. Trevor Newport took the first two wickets, but number four Morrison scored 59 and 62 from opener Kennedy was the mainstay of the Prestwick innings. Spinner Harith Hassan stuck to his task and bowled well in his ten overs to take 4 wickets for the Your Move Player of the Match award. A wicket each went to Singh, Sharples and Sithole to bowl St Ninians out. Then after a series of wickets tumbled very early it needed the younger members of the side for Nunholm to reach a respectable total. Junior Cory Dawson, on debut, was the top scorer with 26, aided by Hassan with 15 in a fifty run eighth wicket partnership, before the side was dismissed for 116.

After not managing to piece together enough wins this season these results mean that both Dumfries and Nunholm will be relegated to Western Premiership Two and Championship Two respectively next year.

The Dumfries Sunday Development XI kept their second place in the Eden Valley Sunday League with a win over Carlisle on Sunday. Adam Malik reached a ton of runs for the weekend scoring fifty retired as did Max Corbett-Byers. Cory Dawson also continued his good weekend with 21 and fellow junior player Billy Morgan contributed a further 13 as Dumfries reached 191 for 7 off the allotted 36 overs.

Then both youngsters made an early impact with the ball. Dawson bowled one opener and Morgan hit the 'top of off' with a couple of great deliveries to remove numbers two and three for a Carlisle start of 16 for 3. Harith Hassan claimed seven wickets over the weekend by taking a further three. MacKenzie Sharples bowled an impressive spell to be rewarded with a wicket as was Lightfoot with a mesmerized batsman bowled. After two good catches in the field, Morgan came back to take the last wicket, and the James Hallam Player of the Match Award, as Carlisle were all out for 115 for a 76 run Dumfries win.

However, the highlight of the effort in the field was a terrific direct hit run out at the bowler's end by Corbett-Byers from square leg.

Women's Cricket: Summer Wee Bash comes to Dumfries
The Cricket Scotland Wee Bash, sponsored by the Beyond Boundaries cricket charity, returned to Dumfries on Sunday morning for some more women and girls soft ball cricket. Four teams took part from Dumfries, Galloway and Prestwick cricket clubs and a mixed side made up the South West Scorchers in the 6-a-side event to encourage and promote soft ball cricket for those starting out in the sport.

Each team played four games and although the Wee Bash emphasis is on playing some fun cricket Galloway won the final against the 'Scorchers' and Prestwick also managed to tie two games against Galloway and versus Dumfries which meant an exciting one over 'super-over' play-off to decide the results. With several getting to play their first ever game thanks go to Cricket Scotland for running the event and with the prospect of more of these Beyond Boundary Wee Bash tournaments taking place indoors over the winter. If interested in trying some soft ball cricket then both Dumfries CC and Galloway CC can be contacted about women and girls cricket.
