On Saturday, the two Dumfries sides did the double against Greenock with two dominating wins in the Western Leagues.

The 1st team, Vigilant Dumfries, made it two league wins from two by beating Greenock at home at Nunholm by 133 runs in Western Premiership 2. The star of the first innings, and the Stealth Competitions Player of the Match, was 16-year-old opener Munro Cubbon who was agonisingly one short of his first century in hitting an excellent 99. He was backed up by 48 by Chris Bellwood and 27 from Max Corbett-Byers in key partnerships with Munro as Dumfries set an imposing total of 244 all out.

Spinner Chris Brockwell took the first of his five wickets to reduce Greenock to 55 for 4 wickets. Thereafter, the Dumfries bowlers worked their way through the batting, despite a cameo innings of 36 by Pandher, to dismiss Greenock for 111. Nairn Cubbon dismissed both openers and Munro had batter three caught behind and spinner Callum Reynolds-Lewis took two wickets in his seven overs.

The 2nd team, Nunholm, managed an even bigger win away at Greenock 2nds, Glenpark, in Western Championship 2. The side amassed a total of 286 for 6 in the forty overs. Opener Wahid Jabarkhil top scored with 54 and skipper Andrew Dawson contributed 47 not out along with 45 not out from Pat Druce. The top five all contributed with runs also from Mark Abnett (18), Ross Lamb (23) and James Cox with 38.

The Nunholm bowlers then shared the wickets to bowl out Glenpark for just 72. Youngster Cory Dawson led the bowling attack, taking three wickets in the process, and Ross Lamb contributed a brace of wickets and with a wicket each for Finley Trigg and spinners Angel and Kamran. Amongst a strong set of team performances, the Muirhead Electrical Player of the Match was Wahid Jabarkhil.

The Dumfries Sunday XI were defeated in their first home match in the Eden Valley Sunday League. Visitors Wigton put up a challenging total of 197 for 6 in batting first. Lachlan Osmond bowled the first wicket after a fifty-opening partnership. Harrison Angel succeeded in taking four, all bowled, in his economical seven over spell and the brothers combined when keeper Bill Middlemiss took a catch off the bowling of Angus.

More than one substantial innings was to be required, and opener Lachlan Osmond did continue his recent run scoring with 48. Unfortunately, the batting line-up struggled and only Cory Dawson contributed to a chase with 37 not out as Dumfries reached 133 all out in reply.

On Saturday, Vigilant Dumfries play leaders Langside away in Western Premiership 2 and the second team, Nunholm, play at home to their 2nd team in Western Championship 2.
