The Dumfries Sunday XI was short by fifty runs in their league match at Lanercost at the weekend in chasing 258. Junior all-rounder Finley Trigg was the Learmont & Simms Player of the Match for Dumfries with his first fifty for the club, not out, plus two wickets.
Lanercost batted first and reached a challenging score of 258 for 7 wickets from the 36 overs, with Trigg taking two of the seven wickets to fall. The other wickets were shared around with one each for junior Angus Middlemiss and for Lightfoot, Goodin and Vadakkoott.
In reply, the Dumfries top scorers were Trigg and Liam Renou who were both retired on fifty and then returned to finish with 51 not out and 61 not out respectively, with each hitting their maiden fifty for Dumfries. Billy Morgan was the other score for the side with 24 as Dumfries finished on 208 for 8.
Also on Sunday, brothers Nairn and Munro Cubbon played for Western Warriors U17s in a close three wicket defeat to the East in the U17 Regional Series with Nairn opening the West bowling to take three wickets.
The one scheduled Saturday fixture was a victim of the weather with the Western Premiership One match at Nunholm, against Glasgow side GHK, abandoned with only four overs able to be bowled and with Vigilant Dumfries on 12 for no wicket. The other league results left the Dumfries side remaining in fifth place in the Premiership.
The winning Nunholm team at the weekend was Dumfries U13s who won at Lanercost on Friday evening by seven wickets. They successfully chased the home side total of 129 for 5 with skipper Edward Ellicott leading the way, along with Danny Allsop, with both hitting 30 retired. Dashiel Trigg set up the chase with his score of 20 and, in the Lanercost innings, Archie Hudson claimed the bowling honours with his 3 wickets.
On Saturday, the 1st team, Vigilant Dumfries, play Uddingston at home in Western Premiership One. The 2nd team, Nunholm, play at Irvine in Western Championship 2.
