In Western Premiership 2, third placed Dumfries 1st XI, Vigilant Dumfries, lost their top of the table encounter at second placed Uddingston by five wickets. Dumfries opted to bat first and it was a team effort that reached the final total of 198 for 9. Six batsmen contributed scores in the twenties and from a precarious 112 for 7 wickets the lower order did well to take the score on with Tommy McGrath finishing on 30 not out.

The Dumfries bowlers succeeded in reducing Uddingston to 101 for 5 with, in particular, the spinners Chris Brockwell and Callum Reynolds-Lewis bowling tightly and claiming three and one wicket respectively, However when they were both bowled out Dumfries were unable to continue to apply the same pressure and an unbeaten hundred run partnership followed which took Uddingston through to their win. Chris Brockwell was the Beveridge Plumbing Player of the Match for his score of 28 and three wickets.

In Western Championship 2, it was an exciting high scoring match at Nunholm as second placed Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, played the side in fifth, Ferguslie 2nds. The visitors were put into bat and they reached a challenging total of 257 for 6 in the forty overs. That was largely thanks to a big innings of 134 from opener Gregor Preston-Jones. Meanwhile, at the other end, Ross Lamb took 3 wickets, aided by two late run-outs, as the side reflected on chances not taken at the innings break.

As for the 1st team, it was a team batting effort with all of the top six contributing scores. Amongst them Cory Dawson scored 39 to help take the score to 139 for 4 with sixteen overs left and just under 120 to get. Then a valiant hundred run partnership between skipper Drew Dawson and keeper Bill Middlemiss got the side to the point of needing 14 runs to win off the final over. However, Middlemiss was caught attempting another six and Nunholm were eventually defeated by 8 runs. He hit the innings top score of 65, and his top score for the club, and he was awarded the Jardine Funerals Player of the Match for so nearly getting his side to victory.

On Saturday, in Western Premiership Two, the Dumfries first team, Vigilant Dumfries, who remain in third place, play fifth placed Stirling County at home. In Western Championship Two, Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, who cling on to second spot, are away to Stenhousemuir 2nds who also sit in fifth spot.

In Scotland age-group representative cricket, Cory Dawson made his Scotland debut, for Scotland U16s, in their four wicket defeat against Derbyshire which was played at Nunhom on Monday. Macey Corbett-Byers also played for Scotland U16 Girls this week in fixtures against Northumberland and Cumbria.

More Scotland age-group cricket returns to Dumfries Cricket Club on Wednesday with Scotland U18s Girls playing Cumbria U18 Girls in the ECB Cup in two T20 matches. The first game starts at 11am.
