Dumfries's Chris McBride and the Scotland side are through to the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifiers currently taking place in Zimbabwe with three wins out of three and with one group game to spare (1). There they join the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Oman and the Netherlands to battle for the top two qualification places for the finals in India in October.

The keystone of that progress was an extraordinary first game win over Ireland off the last ball with just one wicket left. McBride helped set up the Scotland chase of Ireland's 286 with his first ODI fifty for Scotland with 56 as opener. When he was dismissed more wickets fell for a parlous position of 152 for 7. However, 91 not out by Leask got Scotland over the line in a dramatic finish. Earlier McBride bowled economically and took a wicket to have Ireland also in difficulties at 70 for 5 in a see-saw contest.

The season's best bowling figures helped Nunholm to a battling three wicket win at St Ninians in Western Championship One. The Lochthorn Medical Player of the Match was Trevor Newport who spun his way to 6 wickets for 31 at Prestwick. That restricted the home side to 213 all out. Callum Reynolds-Lewis also bowled well to dismiss Prestwick's two top scorers. James Cox and junior Nairn Cubbon opened the bowling and claimed an early wicket each with Nairn producing the perfect delivery to hit the stumps.

Nairn was also key in the eventual win. Nunholm were a long way adrift at 114 for 6 when his sixty-run partnership with Cox was crucial. Earlier Andy Reed with 37, Wahid Jabarkhil with 33 and Mackenzie Staples with 21 all made contributions but without the big score. Cubbon was caught for 15 but Cox with 37 not out and Danny Armstrong adding a further 27 not out gave Nunholm a valuable win with an all-round team effort.

In Western Premiership One, Your Move Dumfries put Prestwick in at Nunholm and the bowlers kept the visitors reasonably in check with the exception of a couple of expensive overs. Alan Davidson struck early, and Chris Brockwell conceded just 12 runs in his ten overs and took the second wicket to fall. Keeper Fergus Bainbridge brilliantly ran out the dangerous Sachin Chaudhary for 38 and James Hobman stayed the side's top wicket taker, and in the top ten in in the league, with two for 14 wickets so far for the season. At 142 for 6 with ten overs to go there was the opportunity for a lower score. However, Du Randt progressed to his score of 50 and number eight Gurupreet Singh enjoyed himself with seven boundaries in his 45 as Prestwick finished 220 all out.

Then, in reply, with Dumfries at 68 for 2, opening bowler Du Randt got his third wicket, and off the last ball of his ten overs, and opener Adam Malik was also bowled immediately after the 25 over drinks break for the top score of 35. That was the first wicket to the spin of Chaudhary and that also proved a problem for the batsmen to come as he went on to take five wickets. Beveridge hit 23, Davidson tried to shepherd the lower order with his innings of 22, and Bainbridge was undefeated on 13 not out but Dumfries wilted to 137 all out. Alan Davidson picked up the Lochthorn Medical Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.
