Events on Saturday meant that both the Dumfries 1st and 2nd teams, Vigilant Dumfries and Nunholm, moved to the top of their respective Western league tables.

In Western Championship 2, Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, played league leaders East Kilbride 2nds at home and a third Dumfries player this season fell short of a century in the nineties. This time it was opener Patrick Obank who hit 94 in a Nunholm total of 234 for 5 in the 40 overs. He shared a fruitful ninety-run third-wicket partnership with 16-year-old Cory Dawson who also went to his maiden fifty for Nunholm with a run-a-ball innings of 67. Keeper Bill Middlemiss helped the side reach a competitive total with 26 not out.

Opening bowler Finley Trigg took a wicket in the first over and Sultan Kamran took two in the fourth to set the visitors back. Finley, Sultan and Ross Lamb each took two wickets and, despite a swashbuckling innings of 58 from batsman number eight Chaudhary, East Kilbride were finally dismissed for 199 all out. Cory Dawson took his second wicket to finish the game and earn the Crichton Partners Player of the Match Award.

In Western Premiership 2, the Vigilant Dumfries away fixture at East Kilbride was cancelled due to wet ground conditions and then defeats elsewhere in the league meant Dumfries moved from second to the top of the league by Saturday evening.

Scottish Cup holders Dumfries U16s continued a six-game winning run in the U16 Scottish Cup with a win over East Kilbride last week in the first round of this year's competition despite a changed line-up. The team won by six wickets after dismissing the visitors for 121 for 9. Cory Dawson took the first three wickets and then two wickets each from Lachlan Osmond and Macey Corbett-Byers, plus a one to Dashiel Trigg, restricted the first innings total. Opener Lachlan set up the victory for Dumfries with a seven-boundary innings of 53 retired. Cory and Edward Ellicott took the side on to a win with scores of 17 and 11 not out respectively.

In the Sunday league, a good bowling performance dismissed Irthing Vale for 92 at Nunholm with four bowlers, Lachlan and Winston Osmond, Macey Corbett-Byers and Angus Middlemiss, each claiming two wickets. Lachlan with 26 and Cory Dawson 33 not out ensured an eight-wicket win.

On Saturday, Vigilant Dumfries play at home against Uddingston in Western Premiership 2 and the second team, Nunholm, play at Ferguslie 2nds in Western Championship 2.
