In Western Premiership 2, third placed Dumfries 1st XI, Vigilant Dumfries, lost their match away at league leaders Kilmarnock by six wickets. After being put in to bat Dumfries could only muster a score of 107 with Chris Bellwood the one batsman to prosper with the game’s top score of 66, which warranted the Vigilant Security Player of the Match award. He shared a seventy-five run second-wicket partnership with Billy Morgan to reach the Dumfries high point of 76 for 1 but from there the innings fell away badly with Kilmarnock bowler Inderjit Singh then taking seven wickets.

Spinner Chris Brockwell opened the bowling and took two early wickets to help have Kilmatnock at 40 for 3 but the home side went on to pass their target for the loss of one further wicket. Brockwell bowled through to claim three wickets for just twenty-three runs. The result removed the mathematical possibility of the side overtaking Uddingston who hold onto the second place promotion spot.

In Western Championship 2, Nunholm, Dumfries 2nd XI, won at home against Mearns 2nds by 86 runs to stay in second place. Nunholm set a competitive total helped by a rapid 59 by opener Wahid Jabarkhil. Junior Cory Dawson contributed 18 to add to his five hundred league runs so far this season, and then Captain Drew Dawson shared an important sixty-run sixth-wicket partnership with James Cox, who hit 22. Dawson finished not out on 74 as he took his side up to 227 for 9 at the end of the forty overs.

Sultan Kamran once more took two early wickets and in combination with a wicket by Cory Dawson kept Mearns to 30 for 3, The subsequent bowlers also managed to take wickets with Lachlan Osmond taking two as did Ross Lamb who also took three catches. Barring two late order cameos Nunholm kept the Mearns batting in check as the visitors reached a final tally of 141 all out with bowlers Finley Trigg, Cox, and John Woodhouse also claiming a wicket. Skipper Dawson was awarded the R Lamb Timber Player of the Match for setting a challenging total with his crucial innings of 74.

This Saturday sees the final fixtures of the Western District leagues. In Western Premiership Two, the Dumfries first team, third placed Vigilant Dumfries, play at home against Hillhead who sit in seventh spot. In Western Championship Two, Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, who are still in second spot, play away at eighth placed Hillhead 2nds.
