Dumfries managed a bad day at the office on Saturday at home against Uddingston in a resounding defeat. Former Dumfries player and junior Niall Alexander was the man of the match as he opened the bowling for the visitors and his pace and swing caused a batting collapse. He was assisted by opening partner Abdul Sabri who took three wickets. A depleted batting line-up on the day needed the top order to stay there but Niall helped remove them rapidly and with the bowlers in the mood the remaining batsmen fared no better and the side was dismissed for a paltry score of thirty all out. Niall Alexander finished with Jimmy Steele Bowling Award type figures of seven wickets for five runs.
The batting response was a formality but there was a glimmer of a highlight with keeper Fergus Bainbridge taking an excellent first catch for the firsts as James Hobman managed to take the prized wicket of Awais.
Press quote from Niall - "I was nervous this this week playing against my home club and playing at Nunholm again.
It was good to play against guys I've looked up to as I came up into Dumfries 1st XI, but today I think I just bowled really well, as did Abdul. The ball was swinging a long way but it was still a nice Dumfries wicket.
Dumfries are a great club though and they've got some great young talent coming through so I think they will be fine this year and in the next few years."
Well bowled Niall. We can claim a Dumfries Player of the Match award despite the result. We hope your dad is still speaking to you.
