Dumfries played Langside on Saturday aiming to consolidate their fourth place in the Western Premier League and came away with a 24 run win.

Your Move Dumfries chose to bat first at home at Nunholm and a series of scores were to take them to what became a winning total. A second wicket partnership took Dumfries past fifty with Tom McBride striking the ball well with several back foot off-drives going for four but first ball after drinks he was out caught behind for 22.

The hundred was passed in the 24th over with Johnathan Van Zyl batting busily at number four on debut but eagerness for a single resulted in a mix-up and he had to depart run out for 24. Meanwhile opener Scott Beveridge accelerated his way to his fifty but was out caught attempting a reverse sweep for 53 after hitting nine boundaries with Dumfries on 135 for 4 in the 30th over.

Adam Malik, batting at six, joined Jesse Smit and a period of strike rotation followed with both batters consistently picking off the singles. They managed a seventy run partnership and took the score past two hundred. However Dumfries were needing to increase the run rate in the last few overs when the firepower of Smit was lost, yorked for 48.

Malik with the help of Chris Brockwell were up to the task and managed to score at a rate of ten an over towards the end of the innings. Malik was out in the last over having reached his run-a-ball fifty with Dumfries finishing on a useful total of 268 for 7.

Langside got off to a flier in reply with two sixes in the opening over but Alan Davidson removed Ahmad the six hitter in the third over caught by McCutcheon. James Hobman bowled tightly but Langside were rattling along at 60 for 1. Davidson then struck again but young batter Esakhiel was playing a substantial innings. A great throw from the boundary by Bellwood importantly ran out his partner on the second run for 120 for 3 with the visitors ahead of the Dumfries innings.

A Captain's bowling change worked with Tommy McGrath taking two wickets in his first over, including Khan lbw for 39, for 167 for 5. It reached the stage with Langside needing a similar closing finish to Dumfries when Smit entered the attack and bowled the crucial wicket of Esakhiel for 63. Two more wickets fell rapidly lbw to Brockwell and Dumfries were faced with a still uneasy finish before the final wicket fell to a great catch by Beveridge on the boundary with 25 needed and three overs left.

The win keeps Dumfries in fourth place just behind West of Scotland who heavily defeated league leaders Prestwick and Dumfries are at home against Clydesdale on Saturday.
