In Western Premiership One on Saturday, Vigilant Dumfries fought back to force a last over finish at home against Stenhousemuir but lost by just 7 runs.
Stenhousemuir chose to bat and a second consecutive league century by their opener Valli set up their challenging total of 261 for 8. Opening bowler Nairn Cubbon followed up his wickets from last week with a further 3 and spinners Chris Brockwell and Callum Reynolds-Lewis claimed 2 each.
Dumfries then went from 96 for 2, to 144 for 6, and a long way from the target, when James Ritchie was caught for the side's top score of 60. However, number eight, junior Munro Cubbon, shared a fifty-run partnership with Fergus Bainbridge, who hit 32 before being run out going for two. Then with brother Nairn, the pair raced between the wickets to get Dumfries in range of an unlikely victory. But Nairn was caught for 28 in a tense penultimate over and the S&R Roofing Player of the Match, Munro, was unbeaten on 40 as Dumfries fell short on 254 for 8.
