The seconds won at Cambusdoon by 7 wickets after a good all-round bowling effort.

Cambusdoon 84 all out v Nunholm 85-3

Nunholm travelled to Ayr to play bottom of the league Cambusdoon knowing one point would secure their league status in the Premier Reserve League. On arrival and after inspecting the wicket Captain Cox choose to bowl first after winning the toss, the wicket was very green and damp which bode well for the strong seam attack.

Both Stuart Alexander and Callum Reynolds-Lewis started well and tested the Cambusdoon openers early on with a consistent line and length. It wasn’t until the sixth over of the match that Nunholm got their breakthrough with Callum getting 2 wickets in his 3rd over. Cambusdoon looked to re-build and tried to halt the fall of wickets which they did until Jacob Taylor replaced Callum Reynold-Lewis at the Pavilion End. Jacob removed the number 3 which brought Neil McCrossin to the cease. Neil is the second leading run scorer in the league and quickly established himself on the game and started to develop a useful partnership with Alan Simpson.

Jerry Goodin was bowling an excellent line and length and challenging the batsmen to play most deliveries with his leg spin however McCrossin continued to score well by putting away the bad ball.Taylor took the important wicket of Alan Simpson with a good catch by James Little at point. J. Taylor finished with 3 wickets from his 10 overs only conceding 15 runs whilst J. Goodin finished with 2 for 37 off 10 overs. The father and son team of Sam and Sean Thornely came into the attack, with Sean quickly picking up 3 wickets and finishing the innings with 3 wickets for 7 runs leaving Neil McCrossin 50 not out and Cambusdoon finished on 84 all out.

Nunholm batsmen knew the pitch was not easy to score on however they knew if they took their time the runs would come and they could get their 5th win of the season. They had already achieved the point required to stay in the league with a great team bowling performance. Some wayward bowling at the start of the innings made it difficult for openers James Cox and Mat Williams to get into the game however runs were coming from extras. D Baines was frustrating the openers especially Cox with his slow bowling and he lost concentration and fell LBW to Baines for 3 which brought Andy Reed to the cease, Reed quickly got off the mark with a 4 but then also fell to Baines, caught by H Boyd in the covers, which brought James Little to the cease. James took his time and watched the ball carefully and mostly playing of the back foot. He looked set with Williams however he attempted to drive the ball on the up and was also caught by H Boyd in the covers for 8.

Next in was J. Goodin who quickly established himself on the bowlers putting away the wayward balls and defending anything on his stumps. Williams had continued to bat with determination and with Goodin increasing the scoring Nunholm surpassed Cambusdoon’s 84 in 28.4 overs.

With Nunholm’s league status now safe the team can have some fun with the last game of the season which is traditionally ‘Gentleman’s Day’ which sees the players dress up in some vintage attire. The team have a great opportunity to finish with 6 wins from 12 games if they beat Shawholm at home on Saturday.
