Nunholm welcomed Dean Park, Renfrew 2nds, on the traditional end of season Gentleman's Day.

Nunholm welcomed Dean Park, Renfrew 2nds, on the traditional end of season Gentleman's Day which turned out to have some extra 'old spice'.

Dean Park won the toss and elected to field first on a pitch that would dry up and get better for batting throughout the day. Mat Williams and Sam Thornely opened the batting for Nunholm. The partnership was building nicely with Nunholm on 23 after 9 overs until Sam was well caught by Mantena at point. Khehra was quickly on a hat-trick ball after yorking Max Corbett-Byers first ball which brought Jerry Goodin to the crease, for his second last game for the club, leaving from his homeland in November.

Williams (24) and J. Goodin (22) rebuilt the innings before some 'gentlemanly' umpiring decisions from the home team put Nunholm on 75 for 5. Callum Reynolds-Lewis came to the crease with Sean Thornley, with Dean Park bowling accurately but a good partnership grew with Reynolds-Lewis the aggressor with his wide range of scoring shots keeping the scoreboard moving whilst Thornley stuck in and rotated the strike well. Unfortunately after Sean Thornely was out for 15, Reynolds-Lewis didn't get suitable support from the senior lower order players and was left unbeaten on 47, and Nunholm were 154 for 9 after 50 and probably 25-30 runs below par.

James Cox and John Woodhouse opened the bowling with good control testing the openers and Cox picked up Siddiq caught well by Sam Thornely at point. Edges were not going to hand and a double bowling change saw Sean Thornley carry on John's excellent work and Hyder Hussain replacing Cox from the clubhouse end. Hyder was not his usual self and struggled with his control but did pick up the dangerous Murray very well caught by Aiden Goodin low down at midwicket.

Reynolds-Lewis replaced Hussain and he bowled with great accuracy and energy and with Sean Thornley at the other end put the pressure on the batsmen. Sean only conceded 9 runs from his 10 overs for 1 wicket and on a different day both bowlers would have picked up regular wickets with various umpiring decisions not going Nunholm's way including three strong LBW shouts and an appeal for a gloved catch behind given firstly as a wide.

The game swung towards Dean Park with a dogged display by T Khasiya and Sah Chopra , with the later the aggressor. That was eating up the overs but not losing wickets would prove to be vital at the end. David Davidson came on to change the pace with the score now past the hundred. This worked with him picking up 3 wickets for 23, but Sah Chopra was still in and approaching his fifty. The last throw of the dice was for Captain Cox to come back on, this time from the Railway End, and he did get the breakthrough of Chopra caught behind by Williams for 44. However by this time Dean Park only needed a handful of runs which they got with 45 overs gone and three wickets left.

Nunholm left the field frustrated with the game being so close and fine margins playing a key role focussing around umpiring decisions but however knowing that another 20 plus runs would have made the difference in the end.

The Nith Valley Cleaning Player of the Match was Callum Reynolds-Lewis for his excellent 47 not out and great spell of bowling for no reward.

With this loss it looks like Nunholm will be playing in Division 2 next year. Next week they welcome St Ninans, Prestwick 2nds, at home for the last game of the season.

Report: Captain Cox

Nunholm 154 for 9 off 50 overs
C. Reynolds-Lewis 47*, M Williams 24, J Goodin 22
Dean Park 155 for 7 off 45 overs
D Davidson 3 for 23, J Cox 2 for 25
