Dumfries under 11s kicked off their campaign away to Appleby at the weekend.
Dumfries bowled first with Appleby waiting on a few players from football. Angus Pickstock, one of four debutants, opened the bowling with Sarah Cox and got Dumfries away to a great start conceding just eight runs from the opening four overs.
Macey Corbett Byers came on and followed up with only two runs off her two overs and was rewarded with getting a wicket. Some good hitting from Appleby's last pair who also play representative cricket got them to a competitive score.
Thomas Cook looked to take on the Appleby bowlers with his aggressive intent. The twins Jonty and Oliver Clark-Maxwell, also on debut, batted well in the middle overs hitting the ball into gaps and running hard. A good finish by pairing Jasmine McCulloch and Cory Dawson got their side agonisingly close but fell only 6 runs short. Player of the Day was Macey with her outstanding all-round efforts with both bat and ball.
