The juniors levelled the series against the women on Friday evening with a victory of the tighter variety. Luke McBurnie came to the crease with three required from 3 balls; a single was scrambled from the first, Max eased another from the second and the fielders came in to put the pressure on but Luke pierced the field with a crisp clip to leg and the celebrations began.
The women had batted first once more but the youngsters, strengthened by the return of Sam Taylor behind the stumps and James Hobman with the ball made things a bit harder despite not being at their best. Adam Malik was also brought into the team and it was Adam who possibly provided the pivotal point in the match when, in his first over, he broke the promising opening stand. Amanda Creedon-Bass had looked solid up to this point went first and was quickly followed by the classy Rachel Howard – both bowled by that undervalued straight full delivery!
However the innings recovered despite wickets from James Hobman and when Sue Strachan joined the impressive Kirsty McKune a competitive total was ensured.
In reply Max Corbett-Byers was not at his best either but once again showed his match awareness and carried his bat for the second time against the women. He provided the glue to hold the run-chase together and allow Luke his Annandale Insurance Champagne Moment..
