Carlisle returned to the scene of the rains of a fortnight ago when they had escaped not only the floods but also an impressive Dumfries first innings total.
This time it was the Cumbrians who knocked up three figures - Freddie Newton retiring with an impressive 30 and being supported by 4 other double-digit totals. Munro Cubbon and Jacob Holden were the pick of the Dumfries bowlers - both bowling aggressively for their braces. They had a combined 6-over spell which took 4 wickets for only 8 runs and gave the doonhamers an outside chance.
But it was not to be - the weakened (and shortened!) Dumfries line-up was unable to cope with the three early wickets and despite Jacob's fluent innings and a valiant knock from debutant Thomas Cook they finished well short.
A game with a game continued however and Nairn and Munro back as batters 9 and 10 batted well and kept the score on track with overs left and with the prospect of a pseudo victory. However a terrific seaming delivery well caught be the keeper broke the partnership and the tenth wicket went with the side 10-15 runs short.
Carlisle U13s 100-5 (20 overs) F Newton 30rtd, M Cubbon 2-9, J Holden 2-15, B Cubbon 1-21
Dumfries U13s 48-8. J Holden 25
Plus a special mention for the Ground Team who managed covered the wicket during the 5 o'clock squall and to the Scoreboard Attendant (well done Ruth) in keeping the electronic scoreboard going.
