The Dumfries Under-13 side managed a first for Dumfries Cricket Club on Sunday in winning a Cumbria Cup for the first time.
They won their U13 League Cup Final at Kirkby Stephen by a good margin thanks to a team effort exemplified by four runouts in the field. Dumfries were put in to bat first and their total of 128 for 8 was set up by two retiral innings by Bill Middlemiss(35) and Cory Dawson(33). They were backed up by scores from Lachlan Osmond(19) opening and by Yazdan Ovais(10) in the middle order.
Cory also set the tone for the Kirkby Stephen reply by taking two wickets for no runs, both bowled, in the opening over. Lachlan then claimed another wicket bowled. Dumfries rotated their bowlers and, interpersed with those four run-outs, it was bowlers nine and ten, Angus Middlemiss with two and Yazdan taking a catch off Cameron Wilson, who claimed the remaining wickets as the home side were all out for 52.
The team sponsor (James Hallam Insurance) Coach's Highlight on a good day for the team was the encouragement of one another throughout the game, on the field, and on the sidelines, and seeing the players' excitement on achieving a Cup victory.
