For Dumfries it was new player, Finley (all the way from Moffat), who held together the top order in the face of hostile bowling. But it was young brother, Dashiel, who hit the winning runs, clipping the winning boundary through mid-wicket.
Earlier, Cory’s two maidens and Danny’s three wickets put Wigton on the back foot and good fielding, including two run-outs, restricted the visitors to 69 all out.
In reply the home team’s wickets fell at regular intervals and when Finley was out to make it 37 for 6 the clever money was on Wigton. But Jack R was the difference between the sides; going to the crease with still almost half the total needed he had a wee look at the bowling, kept the good ones out, worked a few runs and hit the poorer ones for four - batting as it should be done.
Wigton 69 all out; A Hetherington 31*, D Allsop 3/7
Dumfries 72 for 7; F Trigg 14, J Richards 17*, A Hetherington 2/9, T Harrison 2/18
