Dumfries Thirteens were given a wake-up call last week but whereas they crept through for victory then, this week Carlisle capitalised and went on to a comfortable win.
Electing to bowl first, Dumfries could not take any early wickets and were punished for anything loose. None of the bowlers could retain enough control and Carlisle are a good team who were able to stroke the ball around the pitch. Carlisle finished with a score of 154 for 5.
Dumfries then set about making a good response, and playing good cricket to get somewhere near the target, and possibly winning with a perfect display. Unfortunately, Dumfries were not at the races today as the top order failed to score the much need runs, leaving the lower order to rescue some much needed pride.
On the positive side Aiden Goodin stuck in with both bat and ball while Fergus Cubbon showed great composure when fielding, bowling and batting ending with a not-out and Katy Anderson was on target to remove numbers 2 and 3, lbw and bowled. Nevertheless the side will benefit from the learning exercise against a more experienced side and will be improved players in their upcoming games as a result.
