Dumfries batted first and Matthew deputising in the opener role, proved his listening abilities by looking like a proper batter. Regular opener and ever improving Aiden Goodin was his partner and the pair of them got their team into a good position. When Aiden was out with the score on 76 things looked good but a failure to put their slower/younger bowlers over the boundary proved the difference between the sides.
In reply Dumfries took a couple of early wickets, the second to a catch by Niamh Muir that not only took a wicket but saved 4 runs! Yes it was "travelling". Lanercost, thanks to Hannah Proud and Alfie Sharpe, then put the pressure on by finding the boundary on a regular basis and put their team in the driving seat. But wickets then fell at regular intervals and Dumfries became favourites. Ten runs were need by the last pair which they got but not without a couple of close calls.
All-in-all a good performance not least by the under 11 contingent - Jacob Holden and Billy Morgan were undefeated and looked the part with the bat and Cory Dawson deserved to be the match winner with his over at the death which produced the half-chances.
