Match 1 - Dumfries U13s v Appleby-Eden Reds
In the first game of a double-header at Appleby the Dumfries under-13 top five set up a convincing victory. Bill and Harith opened, with Billy batting at 3 and Munro and Nairn at 4 and 5 and between them there were two retirals with 30, and the other three reached twenty, one with a not out. The innings was full of proper and high quality cricket shots against mostly competent bowling. A lot of the running between the wickets was excellent - early calls and good responses.
The batters had provided a challenging total of 131 for 2 and the bowling team also stepped up to restrict the home side to 60 for 9. Jasmine and Cory set the standard with their opening spells of 3 overs each making it virtually impossible for Appleby. Each would finish with one wicket each. The other three bowlers also followed that with wickets shared between Lachlan, Avi and Bethan for a 71 run win.
Match 2 - Dumfries U13s v Appleby-Eden Blues
In match two against the Blue team the batting did not reach the same heights. Billy was unlucky with a deflected run-out and the later order all dug in to reach a total of 96 all out. Lachlan top scored with 17 and Billy and Nairn reached double figures. However in the field the side managed to defend that, and with ten bowlers deployed, for a 20 run win. Lachlan claimed two wickets and, from the first game, the catch of the day with a one handed grab of a missile.
It was a good day full of quality performances and an excellent team effort - batting, bowling and fielding.
The Dumfries Player of Day was Lachlan for 4 wickets for 16 from 6 overs and a score of 17 for once batted and that stunning catch.
