The batters got the runs and the bowlers defended the total. Opener Billy Morgan just fell short of compulsory retiral But both Munro and Nairn Cubbon, in their contrasting styles, made the grade. A couple of cameos - from Jacob Holden and Avi Chaturvedi - ensured a more than competitive 134 total.
And any hope Stainton had of winning soon evaporated due to the accuracy and movement from the opening bowlers. By the time Cory Dawson and Jasmine McCulloch had completed their spells 121 was needed from 12 overs! Cory's 2 for 2 just about deserves mention. Jacob Holden, coming on first change, then proved to be a real handful on the night - his pace and bounce discomfiting each of the batters who faced him. The back-up bowlers also did their job with a couple of wickets but Stainton to their credit battled to the end and avoided being all-out.
The player-of-the-match award would be a close call if it went to a vote and all I can say is that my vote goes to Jacob for his useful 13 not out, 2 wickets for 13 and a couple of good catches.
