Dumfries Women played Galloway in a home friendly and development match on Sunday.

On Sunday, at Nunholm, Dumfries Women won their friendly against Galloway Ladies in a well-contested game.

Galloway batted first and had a productive start thanks to the Ramsay opening pairing. However the introduction of Kirsty Strachan into the attack brought about the first wicket when she bowled Fiona Ramsay with the score at 27. Ginger Ramsey continued to hit boundaries square of the wicket but she was also bowled by Strachan for the top score of 20.

With the bowlers now into their stride run scoring became more difficult as bowlers, Sue’s McBride and Strachan found their line and then Kirsty Strachan brought about the next wicket with a direct hit for a run out.
Kathleen Hamblin and Tegan Line batted steadily to take the score past sixty but Pip Benson claimed a stumping in her first over to remove Hamblin and then a sharp caught and bowled by her removed an unlucky Line the next.

Benson and Naomi Cowan bowled out the final overs of the twenty and Cowan succeeding in bowling Clark with Natalie Hamblin remaining not out as Galloway finished on 79 for 6.

In turn Dumfries lost a wicket, bowled by Natalie Hamblin, in the second over and when Fiona Ramsay bowled another with the score on 24 some rebuilding was required. Ally McCubbin provided that by batting well and Pip Benson provided the necessary support.

McCubbin was another victim of Natalie Hamblin bowling straight when she was bowled for 18. However first Benson was partnered by Sue McBride and then she and Cowan added a further twenty to get within range of the target.

A rush of boundaries from Kirsty Strachan then settled the result with the total reached with overs to spare and with Benson not out after a valuable innings.

It proved a good game for both sides and provided an opportunity for some further match and playing experience. Ally McCubbin was the Parkdale Garage Dumfries Player of the Match for her innings which put Dumfries in a position to win.
