On Sunday Dumfries Women played Galloway Ladies in their Scottish League West fixture at home at Nunholm and came away with a victory in a well contested match.

Dumfries batted first and an opening partnership between Rachel Howard and Kirsty McKune took the score up towards twenty before a run-out meant Margaret Miller came out to join McKune. Together the pair then took the score up past fifty in an effective partnership. Miller proved the mainstay of the home side batting and when McKune was caught off Natalie Hamblin for eleven she shared another substantial, fifty run, stand with Jane Alexander. Alexander was out in the closing overs for a fine debut score of thirteen in an important partnership. Miller was only out in the last of the twenty overs for an innings of 54 which included six boundaries as Dumfries reached 118 for 4.

Then the Dumfries opening bowlers made an early dent in the Galloway reply as young Katy Anderson bowled well to take two wickets as did Rosy Ryan. After being four down early Galloway captain Hamblin revived the innings together with Louise Cumbley. Miller came on to bowl Hamblin for 15 but Cumbley and Alex Livingstone then put together a good partnership for Galloway. However with the required run rate then too high Dumfries successfully kept things in check with the bowling of Howard and Brogan Dean, and junior Tenzin Gyaltsen closed out the game conceding three runs from the final over.

In the end Galloway finished on 62 for 5 for a win for the Nunholm side with useful match experience for both teams with several involved just starting out in the sport on what was a fun afternoon of cricket.
