Dumfries Juniors met their match on Friday when the Dumfries Women proved to be too strong. The game never-the-less was hard-fought with the batters on top.
The women batted first and got off to a good start, Sue Strachan being severe on anything in her area. Callum Reynolds-Lewis then bowled in tandem with Aiden Goodin and brought some control and a couple of wickets. This however only brought one of the class acts to the crease – Rachel Howard was never troubled in her innings. Kirsty Strachan then made sure of a formidable total – 99 for 4 from 18 overs.
The juniors’ reply did not start well when their sometimes team-mate Katy Anderson, bowling straight and at good pace, took an early wicket but the other class act on show then played a magnificent innings. Max Corbett-Byers kept out the good balls, and scored runs all round the wicket from the others with a mixture of good striking and running between the wickets.
