The Dumfries CC and Galloway CC combined women's team won their Premier league match away at George Watsons by 7 wickets.

George Watsons 71 all out lost to Dumfries CC/Galloway CC Women 72 for 3

Dumfries CC/Galloway CC Women set off in the sunshine on Sunday to travel to Edinburgh and play George Watsons Girls CC in the Women's Premier League at Corstorphine and were rewarded with a seven wicket win.

The pitch was in beautiful condition, the ground looked great and the team warmed up full of positivity and purpose. Captain Rosy Ryan won the toss and chose to field first. She put on the young strike bowlers Orla Montgomery and Niamh Muir and with some accurate pacy bowling and good energy in the field, the GWC young openers struggled to make headway scoring only 13 off the first 6 overs and losing 3 wickets in the process -all clean bowled.

Bowlers Jess McCulloch and Nat Hamblin both had spells, with 2 maidens apiece, and Jo Williams, Laura Scobie, Rosy Ryan and Amanda Creedon Bass also kept the mantra of line and length working together with the fielders to keep the score down. Rosy brought Orla and Niamh back on and they worked their way through a brave young set of GWC batters bowling them all out for 71. Grant was top scorer with 29. Orla took 5 wickets for 11 and Niamh 4 for 11, and all their dismissals were bowled.

Dumfries CC and Galloway CC chased that down in just under 22 overs with the loss of only 3 wickets. Rosy Ryan 21 not out and Jess McCulloch 17 were the pick of the batters and Orla followed her bowling effort with 14 not out for the Ashleigh Building Player of the Match. A fielding special mention goes to Julie McCulloch for her diving stop and a great team and individual effort contributed to victory in a match played in the true spirit of the game.

The side go forwards to next week with what will be their first home league game against Edinburgh South CC/ Stewarts Melvilles CC at Nunholm on Sunday 23rd June.
