The combined Dumfries CC/Galloway CC Women's side lost at West of Scotland on Saturday in the Scottish Cup Quarter-Final.

The combined Dumfries CC and Galloway CC Women's team lost out on Saturday in their postponed Beyond Boundaries Scottish Cup T20 Quarter-Final. They played away at West of Scotland in Glasgow in a match with ball sponsorship from Ashleigh Building.

In hot conditions the visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first with the aim of getting some early wickets with the seam based attack. However the young opening pair of Mahatam and Shaihk proved resolute and, aided by extras, that meant that the home side had a settled start and at the half way ten over stage the total had reached 55 for no loss. An injury retiral then brought Scotland player Maqsood to the crease which also resulted in a boost to the scoring rate. It required a composed piece of fielding from Natalie Hamblin to run out out Shaikh for the first wicket. Katy Anderson returned to the attack in the closing overs and was able to stem the runs from Maqsood and new partner Dalton by having the former well caught at midwicket by Jo Williams. She followed that up by bowling returning batter Mahatam in the final over as West of Scotland finished on a challenging score of 128 after the twenty overs.

In reply the visitors had to have a similar start from the top order but spinner Mughis claimed two wickets in two accurate initial overs and leg-spinner Maqsood then enticed an edge to the keeper. Sue Strachan and Natalie Hamblin attempted to rebuild but with little run-scoring opportunities on offer. This time the half way score was 23 for 3 with the target definitely too far away. Both perished looking for runs but the side persisted to be seven down for 44 at the end for a comfortable win for the home side.

The winners, West of Scotland, progressed to the National Final's Day the next day, on Sunday, at Stirling where, after a semi-final win, were defeated in a competitive final against Edinburgh side, Carlton.
