Dumfries Sunday XI travelled short-handed to Gatehouse but their enthusiasm and Dave Strachan’s class earned them a victory. Dave was the BMW convertible of the match taking 2 wickets and making an imperious 37 not out.
Gatehouse had been restricted to 108 all out thanks mainly to an excellent catch by Gordon Lyburn to dismiss the dangerous Fraser Conn. However a mention must also be made of Keith Walker’s ever developing off-spin which earned him a couple of wickets. But the top wicket-taker was Adam Elliot including, what one witness suggested, was the worst ever wicket-taking delivery seen on the ground.
This highly enjoyable game was won by Dumfries with the last two at the crease. The early runs were made by Gordon Lyburn and the stylish Jack Currie but it was the smooth Strachan who effortlessly glided his team past the target.
