Dumfries Sunday XI were soundly beaten at the weekend by a fairly strong West of Scotland eight needlessly strengthened by 3 of Nunholm’s better players - not one of Williams’s better decisions!
Batting first West made 188 all out and in reply Dumfries could only manage 120. However the result did not mask some good performances and the match was also valuable by suggesting a few learning points to work on.
Thirteen-year-old Matthew Currie was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 27 from 7 accurate overs and the not-much-older Fraser Strachan perhaps did not get fully rewarded for his excellent opening spell of 7 overs - taking 1 for 26.
Cammy Telfer was the stand-out amongst the batters, scoring a fluent 47. The highlight of the innings was his sixth wicket 42-run partnership with Matthew Currie who is making a strong case for being classified as an all-rounder.
Thanks go to West of Scotland for coming to Nunholm and completing the home and away fixtures – fixtures which both sides stated would be worth repeating.
