The Dumfries Sunday XI lost at Hillhead after the home side recovered from the loss of early wickets for a three wicket win.
After overnight rain Dumfries were put in to bat on a damp pitch and outfield which put runs at premium in match of 35 overs per innings. Openers Corkery and Lyburn provided a solid start before the former was lbw. Then the introduction of Thornhill as the fifth bowler brought wickets for Hillhead. Lyburn was bowled and the Hillhead bowler proceeded to take five wickets in as many overs. Fraser Strachan and Andrew Kyle then provided valuable lower order runs with Strachan not out as Dumfries were dismissed in the final over for a useful score of 105 in the conditions.
So it proved with Kyle bowling two early wickets as he operated in tandem with a good spell from Fraser Strachan. The Farries, Kirk & McVean Dumfries Man of the Match, Dave Strachan, then came on to end up with 4 wickets for just 12 in seven overs as Hillhead went five wickets down for not many. However two scores from opener Tervet and the number seven, Mehmood, then made the difference. Opener Tervet was caught by Lawrie for 31 off Dave Strachan to put Dumfries back in the game but Mehmood finished with the day’s top score of 34 not out as Hillhead, despite Sam Thornely bowling another, won by three wickets in a well contested game.
