The Dumfries Sunday XI enjoyed a close match away at Carlisle at the weekend.

Patrick Corkery and Adam Malik put together an opening partnership of fifty with the former one of Butcher’s three victims, caught for 36. Chris Taylor and Connor Jones then shared a productive partnership until Connor was caught. The Taylors. Chris and Sam, got to bat together and Chris finished as top scorer bowled for 45 with the Sunday side finishing on 141 for 6 after the 35 overs.

Connor Jones and Dave Lightfoot bowled an economical opening spell with the latter getting the first wicket caught and bowled. Wilson, Sanderson and Brown all passed the twenty mark for the Carlisle side. Skipper Connor picked up two wickets and Manzoor and Adam Malik each took a wicket each on a dads and lads day at the cricket.

However the young Carlisle Academy side reached the winning target for five down with just over three overs left after a good encounter for both sides.

There were debuts for Hyder Hussain and the youngest player Luke McBurnie. Luke’s aware and outstanding effort in the field was discussed in the seniors’ car on the way back and earned the GM Thomson & Co Dumfries Man of the Match award, and an independent observer judged Ronan Dunbar’s fine catch to be Sunday’s Champagne Moment for Dumfries.
