The Dumfries Sunday XI enjoyed a close finish to their game at Langholm at the weekend.

Dumfries set a total of exactly one hundred batting first. Gordon Lyburn and Mark Irwin, with 24, gave the visitors a good start but Langholm chipped away with wickets. Gordon Marshall’s 25 not out was valuable as opening bowler Wilkes came back to take three wickets with the Dumfries innings subsiding to be all out with four of the 35 overs still remaining.

Dumfries then made a good start with again both opening bowlers, Chris McCutcheon and Dave Lightfoot, taking two wickets. However Steele found the boundary, including two sixes, for 29. Then with Dumfries needing two more wickets, a ninth wicket partnership between Masterton, with 28 not out, and Elliot with a crucial 10 not out saw the Castleholm side home with two overs left.

Lightfoot was the Roger Lever Photography Dumfries Man of the Match for a tight opening spell and was unlucky not to take more than two wickets. One of those wickets was also the Scott Beveridge Plumbing Champagne moment with his first ball neatly bowling the Langholm opener.
