The Dumfries Sunday Development XI kept their second place in the Eden Valley Sunday League with a win over Carlisle on Sunday. Adam Malik reached a ton of runs for the weekend scoring fifty retired as did Max Corbett-Byers. Cory Dawson also continued his good weekend with 21 and fellow junior player Billy Morgan contributed a further 13 as Dumfries reached 191 for 7 off the allotted 36 overs.
Then both youngsters made an early impact with the ball. Dawson bowled one opener and Morgan hit the 'top of off' with a couple of great deliveries to remove numbers two and three for a Carlisle start of 16 for 3. Harith Hassan claimed seven wickets over the weekend by taking a further three. MacKenzie Sharples bowled an impressive spell to be rewarded with a wicket as was Lightfoot with a mesmerized batsman bowled. After two good catches in the field, Morgan came back to take the last wicket, and the James Hallam Player of the Match Award, as Carlisle were all out for 115 for a 76 run Dumfries win.
However, the highlight of the effort in the field was a terrific direct hit run out at the bowler's end by Corbett-Byers from square leg.
