The Sunday Development XI completed their league programme with a win at Wetheral to sit in second spot in the Eden Valley Sunday League table with Nairn Cubbon awarded the S&R Roofing Player of the Match after taking five wickets.
Dumfries batted first and the removal of Wahid Jabarkhil after a characteristically rapid score of 17 brought brothers Nairn and Munro together for a Cubbon show. Nairn scored 20 and Munro continued, in partnership with Adam Malik, to reach 30 in a good comeback from a prolonged injury. Malik marshalled the innings with a score of 51 retired to remarkably remain not dismissed in the Sunday statistics with five fifties. The sage heads of Cox (17no) and Beveridge then took the side up to 171 for 8 and remained not out in process.
Nairn continued to make an impact with a wicket bowled in his second over. Mark Abnett added two more and a further two from Nairn had the home side at 37 for 5. Harith Hassan bowled a good extended spell and finished with a caught and bowled. Dave Lightfoot picked up yet another Sunday wicket and James Cox's wicket was also caught by Nairn. The latter then came back to provide the denouement and finish the innings with two wickets in two balls, but be denied the chance of a hat-trick.
Wetheral were all out with 99 to complete the league for a Dumfries side with an admirable team atmosphere and with the younger players continuing to develop over the summer and making an impact.
And it was good to see Munro back on the pitch after injuries to his arm and getting in six overs of bowling as well as batting.
