It all came down to the last over as Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI squeezed out another victory to keep their 100% record going 4 weeks into the season.
Dumfries were put into bat and on a wicket that was rewarding good length early bowling they thought the had weathered the storm, but James Little had little chance as he was dismissed for 18. At the other end Robbie Huxtable may well have ridden his luck at times, but sometimes the batting gods are with you.
Max Corbett-Byers did well for his 10 and Luke McBurnie had no such luck as the slip fielder juggled his edged ball, which was eventually caught by another fielder in gully. Robbie Huxtable retired at 50, his first of the season, and the ever reliable Danny Armstrong went out to the wicket and put in his usual responsible innings until the fireworks happend near the end of the innings with 3 huge sixes.
James Hobman provided support to Armstrong as he registered his second 50 of the season. Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday XI finished on 155 for 4.
The opening attack has this season been consistently delivered by Hyder Hussein and Callum Reynolds-Lewis and it was the latter who made the early breakthrougn bowling both the openers and the number 3 batsman in consecutive overs. The team were bouyant, but a strong partnership was built by Langholm.
It took a bowling change, with youngster Alisdair Little, to make the breakthough as the Langholm batsman chipped the ball in the air for an easy catch by Reynolds-Lewis. Andrew Reed and Danny Armstrong bowled in tandem with control, each picking up a wicket, however the Langholm players got on top of Reed as he was dispatched for multiple boundaries.
Hyder Hussain was bought back into the attack and succeeded in picking up two wickets. The scores were getting tight with Langholm needing 20 runs off the last 5 overs with 3 wickets remaining. Captain Reed turned to the experienced Armstrong and Huxtable who duly delivered. Dumfries took the last wicket in the last over and ran out winners by 10 runs to keep their 100% record in the league alive.
