Another fifty (55no) for Adam Malik but in a losing cause for the Sunday Dev XI against a competitive Appleby side with the Dumfries top order falling victim to five wickets by the opening left-arm pace attack of Hodder.
Croma Vigilant Dumfries Sunday 96 all out v Appleby Eden CC 163 all out
The Sunday Dev XI were defeated by an experienced Appleby Eden side, but showed some good signs from a young team.
Appleby Eden were on the attack early with many lusty blows which had the bowling attack in trouble in the early overs. It was a superb slip catch taken by Callum Reynolds-Lewis which started the breakthrough for Dumfries. Appleby Eden began to lose regular wickets throughout the first innings which were shared around, 3 for David Lightfoot, and two each for Sean Thornely, James Hobman, and Max Corbett-Byers 2. The highlight of the first innings was the wicket of Appleby Eden mainstay Brabbins who was finally out by a running diving one handed catch for 61 by Reynolds-Lewis to end the innings.
In reply, it was a case of what might have been for the Dumfries side. Off the back of a 50 the day before, Malik continued his good form racking up yet another 50. The top order was torn apart by the left arm round paceman Hodder who picked up 5 wickets. Hope was still in the air with Malik and Reynolds-Lewis at the crease, and they looked at one point like they could get the young side home with Appleby Eden becoming more defensive in the field and runs were easy to come by. However Reynolds-Lewis eventually fell and the match ended with Appleby Eden taking the points.
