It was a close one, but Dumfries are victorious with the Sunday Development Team.

Six wins a tense finish for Dumfries

Lanercost 154 for 8 lost to the Dumfries Sunday DevXI, 158 for 9.

It was a close affair at Lanercost as Dumfries' Sunday Development Team won a tight match with just 1 wicket to spare, to move the team to second in the league.

Dumfries were asked to field first and Sean Thornely was the pick of the opening bowlers as his swing and seam picked up the two openers. A change brought on dib-dob bowler Andrew Reed who kept tight lines and he also picked up two wickets, the first a high catch comfortably taken by Jacob Taylor and the second a one handed diving catch off his own bowling. Lanercost were struggling to score and things got worse for them as Luke McBurnie forced an attacking batsmen to mistime a shot which was caught by James Little. However Allen was then able to add an undefeated fifty for Lanercost. Thornely returned to the attack in the latter overs and he picked up two more wickets leaving Lanercost 154 for 8.

Dumfries in response had a mixed start, whilst the runs were always there the wickets kept falling. Opener Mat Williams did offer resistance and he was eventually joined by Reed and the pair put on a 56 run partnership up to drinks and everything looked set fair for an easy victory for Dumfries, but it was to be anything but. Williams went LBW and Reed fell ten runs later with the score at 107 for 6. Callum Reynolds-Lewis came to the crease and with some lusty blows the scoreboard began to tick along, but Lanercost got regular wickets and the score was 144 when the last batsman Rory Thornely walked to the crease as the watching supporters watched nervously. Thornely and Reynolds-Lewis proceeded to run well between the wickets and it was Reynolds-Lewis who eventually smashed the ball to the deep, but straight at a fielder on the boundary. Thankfully, for Dumfries, the ball slipped through his hands and over for a 6 to win the match.

Farries, Kirk and McVean Player of the Match: Callum Reynolds-Lewis for his 31 not out.
