The Sunday Dev XI drew with Caldbeck as they were short by 21 runs at Nunholm chasing a total of 181.

League Champions fall out of 2019 title race.

Caldbeck 181 for 7 v Dumfries Sunday Development XI 160 for 7

Dumfries Sunday Development team welcomed Caldbeck for their first ever visit to Nunholm but were unable to get the runs required to claim a much needed victory and finally finished any chances the team had of retaining their title for the 2019 season.

Caldbeck won the toss and made the correct decision to bat on what looked a great wicket. Dumfries made an early breakthrough with Sean Thornely forcing the batsman to chip up to Adam Malik in the covers. Dumfries were bowling tight lines, but not making the early breakthrough to put pressure on the Caldbeck batsmen. A strong innings by M Strong meant he retired on 51, Dumfries changed the bowling with Callum Reynolds-Lewis returning to the attack, along with Vaughn Staples and the pair in partnership did the damage in the middle overs picking up two wickets each and had Caldbeck in trouble. It was a late surge by the Caldbeck players who swung hard and the ball was finding the gaps and they pushed the total to 181, despite David Lightfoot picking up his regular Sunday team wicket.

Dumfries in reply got off to a bad start with Fergus Bainbridge being dismissed early. Max Corbett-Byers and Mat Williams began to build a foundation and when Adam Malik joined Williams at the crease, the pair put in a solid performance and kept Dumfries in the chase. Adam Malik retired and a couple wickets fell through a combination of good deliveries and very bad shot selection. With every ball that passed the run rate increased and despite Rory Thornely smashing a big 6 to the tennis courts, Dumfries fell 20 runs short.

Man of the Match: Mat Williams with a good performance with the keeping gloves and scoring a solid 50 with the bat.
