Dumfries hosted Appleby in the Eden Valley Sunday League at Nunholm but the visitors came away with a win despite a Walker and Sharpe Player of Match batting effort from Jerry Goodin.
The feature of the Dumfries innings was a batting collapse which started in the nervous nineties. That was despite the home side being 93 for 1 at one stage with Jerry Goodin continuing his run with the bat with a fifty and Mat Williams scoring 41. Thereafter a series of mishaps and mistakes rewarded the application of a young Appleby bowling attack and the Sunday side melted to a total of 134 all out, and with a handful of overs still left.
Appleby then managed their innings more successfully. Josh Bellas was a class batsmen for the visitors as he controlled the run chase and lit up his score of 50 retired with some flashing blade boundaries. Young opener Donnelly was resolute, and was supported by Beckwith with 24, and ended up with 27. Matt Pickstock had bowled the other opener with a fine delivery and James Hobman returned to the attack to claim two wickets. Youngster Harith Hassan in his second outing for the side took the solitary catch well from skied attempted pull. However Appleby-Eden comfortably took the win by seven wickets. Well done to Jacob and Basit on making their debuts for the Sunday side.
