The Dumfries Youth team travelled to Langholm on Monday for what turned out to be a good game of cricket. With only 4 players not in the Junior team they were obviously reliant on the few but, batting first, they were not let down. Adam Malik and Sam Taylor put on thirty and then Callum Reynolds-Lewis, with Adam, put on a further fifty (or more). Adam was retired, short of his half-century having displayed his customary excellence for the Annandale Insurance Dumfries Man of the Match award. Callum having ridden his luck early blossomed and will be only too happy to describe a couple of his shots (a six and a reverse sweep) if you are unwise enough to ask him.
The 120 total was made in 25 overs from a good bowling attack with Aiden Wilson being the pick of them but Bailey Donaldson, Jay Gordon and Callum H were not far behind – all taking a wicket apiece.
Dumfries’s defence of their total got off to a good start – 6 for one wicket was promising but they were then undone by some expensive overs. Katy Anderson was the exception and her figures of 1 for 18 from 5 overs against good, strong and older batters was commendable. Callum found a good length after his first couple of overs and his next 3 bagged him 2 wickets for just 2 runs – clean bowling both the impressive Callum H and top-scorer Bailey Donaldson. But the damage had already been done and Aiden Wilson and Thomas S brought their team home comfortably with 4 overs to spare.
Thanks go to car drivers for transport and to Ross Rae for looking after us.
