A Dundrum U16s touring side from Northern Ireland spent last Tuesday at Nunholm playing two games against Dumfries U16s.
In the first innings Dundrum opted to bat first and the opening partnership of Philips brothers proved difficult to dislodge. Skipper Rhys Phillips went on to top score with 37 and shared a fourth wicket partnership worth sixty with Tom Crudgington who scored 23 not out. However the Dumfries bowlers restricted scoring to five an over and claimed late wickets in the 25 overs for a Dundrum total of 129 for 8. Alisdair Little, Sean Thornely and Max Corbett-Byers took a wicket each and Luke McBurnie finished with 3 wickets for 15.
The Dumfries reply was then dominated by Adam Malik as his shots dissected the Dundrum field and peppered the boundary. He got support from Matthew McBurnie and Max Corbett-Byers but his innings of 81 not out determined the total as Dumfries finished ahead on 133 for 8. Weather prospects changed what was intended as a two innings contest and the first half was declared a honourable draw with Dumfries taking the 1st innings ‘points’.
In a second match of 16 overs-a-side the Philips brothers proved influential again. Dumfries reached a total of 73 with a catch finally removing Malik for another top score this time of seventeen. A run out by Alisdair Little removed one Philips for 19 but Rhodri batted aggressively to see his side comfortably home with 35 not out. That completed a good day’s cricket for the visitors amidst some blustery and unfavourable conditions and afterwards Dundrum awarded one of their characteristic red Dundrum caps to Adam Malik as their adjudged Player of the Match.
