The U15s registered a ten wicket win in the league at Nunholm on Monday against Langholm.

Langholm U15s 69 for 9 lost to Dumfries U15s 71 for 0

A 10 wicket win on Monday proved lessons were learned at Langholm by Dumfries under 15s. Retirals for the two openers (James Little and Max Corbett-Byers), and four wickets in three overs for Vaughn Staples, sealed an emphatic return leg victory for Dumfries U15s against Langholm U15s.

Langholm, who narrowly defeated Dumfries at home last month by bowling them out for 58, won the toss and chose to bat. The Dumfries opening bowlers, Sean Thornely and Orla Montgomery, kept tight lines and their tricky seaming and swinging deliveries restricted the top three batters to 5 runs in 40 balls. Sean bowled Henderson and then Vaughn came on and bowled the other opener with his first ball. The leg breaks continued to bamboozle the opposition as he took another three wickets in his next 11 balls. One of which was a good catch by Katy Anderson and another was caught behind by keeper James Little. Langholm were reeling at 20 for 5. They rallied, though, and put on another 30 runs thanks to the accomplished contribution of Corey Park who scored 26 before being caught well, again by Katy, off Luke McBurnie’s bowling. Another good catch in the deep by Fergus Bainbridge off Aiden Goodin, and two run outs, one by Orla and one by Aiden meant that Langholm finished on 67 for 9, after a final maiden at the death by James Hobman.

Langholm’s bowling response was not quite as disciplined and their length was generally too short. This was meat and drink for openers James Little and Max Corbett-Byers who feasted well with pulls, cuts and drives to reach 31 and 30 retired respectively in just over seven overs as the home side cruised to victory.

Player of the Match was Vaughn Staples for setting up a winning position with his rapid four wicket spell.

Langholm U15s 69 for 9 (20 overs) Corey Park 26; Vaughn Staples 4 for 13,
Sean Thornely 1 for 1, Aiden Goodin 1 for 12, Luke McBurnie 1 for 10
Dumfries U15s 71 for 0 (8.5 overs)
James Little 31 retired, Max Corbett-Byers 30 retired
